Sam has traveled, taught, and trained with some of the best martial artists in the world, so he can bring to his school the best the sport has to offer.

Karl Pope

GRAPPLING COACH

Coach Karl found martial arts first with boxing in the army where he boxed for his regiment, taking a silver medal in the army nationals. Later on, he found Judo, receiving his brown belt from Olympic gold medallist, Karen Briggs. After a string of elbow injuries, judo's high-impact nature became too much on the body and he chose to study BJJ whilst recovering. Karl took to it like a natural, quickly acquiring strong submission skills that would rival opponents far more experienced.

His experience in the army, coaching youth rugby alongside elite submission skills makes him the perfect fit for Beverley Combat Academy.

Martyn Oliver

GRAPPLING COACH

Coach Martyn began Kung Fu 26 years ago, as his training progressed he looked for martial arts that had more live practice, here he found BJJ and Muay Thai. his 15 years of coaching experience, with a specialty in coaching vulnerable adults and children and a meticulous eye for detail set him a notch above.

This is shown in his fantastic work with the Peel St Project. A youth development program using Jujitsu in hull’s inner city has grown leaps and bounds under Martyn’s guidance.
